FRESH SCOOPS

Alright, October is knock-knock-knocking on the door with a pumpkin in one hand and a suspiciously glowing mystery box in the other.

We’ve got the Halloween Contest coming up, a new Community Worldbuilding event getting ready to launch and our usual monthly hangout scheduled over on Discord. Y’all better be ready to make somethin’ spooky! Build somethin’ bigger or just spend some together time with the community, we’ve got plenty goin’ on.

Halloween Contest Creeping Up

The Spooky Season is here, which means that the Halloween Contest is creeping up right behind you! Now’s a good time to start warming up those monster prompts, haunted backdrops, cursed OCs, costume ideas for your creepy cuties and whatever else it is that your strange little creative organs can summon up!
Halloween is always one of our most fun contests themes of the year, because you can really take it so many different directions: Scary, Sexy, Silly, Gothic, Adorable, Cursed Beyond Repair and many others! It all fits under the same full moon, in the misty pumpkin patch!

A Whole New World of Frosting Events

We’re also trying out something a bit new and a bit different! We’ve got a new Community Worldbuilding event! Instead of everyone making separate entries to compete with each other, this one is about building something together!
We’ll give the community a shared setting and you’ll be able to help fill it with characters, creatures, factions, locations, stories, mysteries, romance or anything else you think will make a world feel alive!
This is less like a contest and more like a big community art-and-lore project. Your image might become a local legend, a strange beast to discover in the woods, a local shopkeeper with their own secrets, etc. etc. etc. There are so many tiny pieces of history and character that helps a setting expand, deepen or just plain old GROW!
We’re super excited to see what happens when the Frosting community starts building a shared world from a hundred different angles! This will be our first try at doing this, so any thoughts or feedback would help up to make it the perfect new kind of event, so don’t hesitate to let us know what y’all think!

Keep on Hanging Out With Frosting

And a quick reminder! The hangouts are still one of the very best ways to really get some fun time with other community members instead of just scrolling past each other on the site! Sure, you can like or comment, follow or message, but it’s a whole nother thing to meet up on the Discord server and play some games!
Mini hangouts are still going on too, so there are plenty of smaller chances to jump in, watch someone stream, share what you’re making or just vibe for a bit!
You don’t need to have a perfect prompt ready, you can just show up, talk, watch, ask a weird question and enjoy the room!

COMMUNITY CURIOSITIES

We dragged Waterphox out onto shore to pick his brain about how their work… works! Exclusive phoxy answers to the interview are here for you to settle your curiosity and maybe learn a few new things about how to approach or polish your own generative processes!

Q. Can you describe your creative process? How do you approach starting and completing a new piece?
A. For starting a new piece, I first decide on which character to use. Usually it'll be someone I want to use or someone I haven't done in a while. I just copy and paste their prompts into an existing dream I have of that character or a new one. Normally I either sit in my chair thinking on what would look good or see what other people are doing and join in on the fun.

Q. How has your style or medium evolved over time, and what drove those changes?
A. My prompts were "prompt heavy." Most of the time, my images would be washed out so I asked around and got some feedback on what I should try. The majority of what I do today are from either me trying things out on my own or I had wonderful people who gave feedback on what I should try.

Q. What inspires your work, and how do you incorporate those influences into your art?
A. When my friends or anyone who reacts positively towards my art. I try to do different positions or poses or whatever I am thinking at the time.

Q. What message or emotion do you hope viewers take away from your work?
A. Inspiration. I love when I get positive feedback on my art and I hope that when people see my art, it makes them feel good but also gives them something to try. Learning new tags and trying them out to see what is good is always fun, at least for me.
